But when it comes to being romantic, his taste is impeccable. In Superman II, he flew all the way to St. Lucia's Ladera Resort to find the perfect flower for his beloved Lois Lane.

He knew something that Oprah Winfrey, Harrison Ford, Raquel Welch and John Cleese figured out a long time ago. This cozy resort perched 1,000 feet/300 meters above sea level has some of the prettiest views in the Caribbean.

All 19 suites and villas have an open west wall, meaning you don't have a smudged window blocking your view of the island's signature twin Piton mountains, the jungle or the sea. Each two-story, three-bedroom villa has its own garden and a private pool, fed by a waterfall, and many of the suites have open-air showers, Jacuzzis, banana trees growing in the room, and even an occasional visiting salamander or bat.

With views like these, however, you may never want to get out of your four-poster, mosquito net-draped bed, but just in case you do, the resort also has a pool, library, botanical garden (the source of the fresh fruit on your breakfast tray each morning) and the prize-winning Dasheene's restaurant.
